TrueText

The web is changing.

How do you get through the mass of data out there to get information you need? Most people have been turning to social applications such as FaceBook and Twitter, as well as review websites like TripAdvisor, to find out what is happening.

  • First page Google result are looking more and more like advertising. Google has been fighting back with decreased reliance on PageRank, a greater emphasis on Google Plus feedback, and increased focus on Google Places.
  • Review websites are increasing in popularity, people want more than just advertising. TripAdvisor has been hugely successful in this space and we are likely to see a lot more review websites gaining momentum.

When you look for a hotel, do you do a Google search or do you use Google Maps and Trip Advisor?

These are exciting developments however the problem still remains. How can we trust the reviews? Won't they just turn into advertising?

This is where the TrueText algorithm comes in. By giving a score to the veracity of a passage of text it gives us the ability to extract the exact information we need.

How do we do it? Of course we can't release that information as it would decrease the efficacy. TrueText also cannot be made directly available for immediate feedback to text passages to avoid people gaming the algorithm. But we can say that the algorithm has dependencies on the context. The applications are wide and include examining reviews on hotels, products, or services as well as verifying news items and blog posts.

TrueText has been incorporated into the Okapied platform for holiday rentals as a live scenario trial run and we expect many further applications in the future.
