During a very challenging project we came across the need for a hyper-scalable spatial database.
This was not just an ordinary requirement, that
could be achieved using Oracle Spatial or PostGIS. We also had specific spatial searching needs (e.g. retrieving features within
a n-dimensional cube, nearest neighbour queries) that could not be done with the current scalable distributed data storage products.
Our Solution: DB Evolve - the first distributed spatial database management system.
Ok, it is not really the first, this has been done by researchers before. There are also applications that must have one, such as Google Maps.
However this is the first commercial product of its kind out there.
Currently we are offering DB Evolve 0.3 only as part of our consulting service, when it meets a customer need. This is because of
the complexity of setting up a cluster, and the expertise required to ensure that the cluster configuration achieves maximum performance.
However watch this space as we are planning to release a spatial database as a service solution, backed by DB Evolve, in the
very near future. This will give cloud-based access to almost unlimited scalable spatial data storage.
